RESEARCH:
Blogging task on Andrew Goodwin
Andrew Goodwin feels that traditional narrative does not apply to pop videos, they approach narrative different to that of novels and films this is because pop videos are built around songs, pop videos use the singer as a narrater and as a character and lastly the singer looks directly at the camera, most of the time.
Pop videos rely on repition goodwin argues repeating images and so on, this is to make parts of the song familiar to the audience through playing it on tv, radio and advertising on a film. The pop videos must have an ending that reflects the structure of the song.
There are three types of reltions between songs and videos: illistration, aplification and disjuncture.
illistration - Video tells a story an example of this is Hairspray - I can hear the bells
Amplification - Video that introduces new meanings that do not contradict with lyrics
Disjuncture - Little connection between the lyric and video an example of this is Lady gaga - Telephone
