Final thoughts

Audience feed back on Ancillary productions + Audience feedback for music video

The feed back i received for my Ancillary productions:

"its definately something that would draw my attention if it were to be in stock"

"it looks proffesional"

"The theme looks abit urban instead of R&B Pop style"

The feedback i received for my music video:

"I love the locations you had for your basetracks"

"Alot of cuts for the edits, could improve by allowing some shot to last abit longer so go with the mood of the song abit more"

"The musical phases match exactly with the rhythm of the song"

"Good use of strong edits, thoughtful use of mise- en scene and sound"

What i have learnt from all my feed back and constructive crtisisms is that i have managed to pick up the skills of editing well and sucessfully caught my audiences attention. I am now also aware of the places i could have improved on such as not  always repeating shots and using a variety. At least we also know that the locations we went to were worth going to and that we made great use of them for our artists to notice.

How I Felt When I First Received The Evaluation Questions and Feelings During

More Search Engines

More Places I Received Information From

YouTube and my usb are two more things I used to collect information, images etc for all of my evaluation questions.
YouTube is the place where I used the print screen tool on the mac to collect images of one of Chris Brown's music videos which I also used for another one of my presentations.
My usb had all of the images of our music video, my advert and also my digipak.

Search Engines

Information Sources

Google.com and Bing.com are the main search engines I used when I was gathering information, getting images etc. for my evaluation questions. For example, I collected the pictures of the technologies I used from Google rather than taking individual picture of all of them.

Evaluation Question four:

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Evidence of feedback:

Monday 28 January 2013

Evaluation question two:

2 - How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary text (digi-pak and advertisement)?

How well does my ancillary products make clear visual links with my groups music video?
How does the audience recognise them as linked products?

How successful do you think your main and ancillary texts are?

Both the texts highlighted in Red is the 'text' we decided to use for our Digi-Pak and we could then choose how we used them, what colours we would make them depending on the three colours we chose to use as a group and where we placed them.

This is the text on my actual CD

This is the actual text on the outer panel on my front cover

This is my actual track list

These are the quotes I have placed on the inner panel

This is the text on my advertisement

This is the text on my advertisement

This is also text from my advertisement

I personally think the text on my Digi-Pak is very effective, it features the house style that I have tried to follow throughout making my Digi-Pak of white blue and grey. I decided by making the Artist's name a bold blue it would make it stand out and draw the audience's eyes to it, which I think it has successfully done especially on the outer panel front cover and on the actual CD itself. I think the 'Nor-Et-Blanc' text stands out more than the 'Unity Dances' which is why I used that test for my track list however I felt like the 'Unity Dance' text advertised the Album well on the advertisement well, it suited the colours and positioning on the advertisement better than the other 'Nor-et-Blanc'. However critically I think on the advertisement the grey text using front style 'unity dances' could stand out more.

What work influenced me when making my Digi-pak?

This question is answered in the Prezi below:

How have i used elements of real digi-paks?

This is a list of things our teacher said we must include in our Digi-Pak it is a section of things we need to do for our  ancillary to be successful.
Like I mentioned in Evaluation one, "My Digi-Pak uses a clear font and uses appropriate sizes of images and font, with clear images that are appropriate to the shape of the page, I have kept up a house style that I feel is effective and have used it throughout making the Digi-Pak on the inner and outer panels. I have carefully placed the text on the panels so they are reason-able but they do not block any of the images. I have also included a bar code and the right labels and symbols and logos needed, and did not forgot to include the title and artist name."
By following the Do's and Don't s list I have managed to produce a conventional Digi-Pak which is show below.

This is the outer panel of my Digi-pak

This is the inner panel of my Digi-pak

Examples of real artists Digi-paks and how similar or different my Digi-pak is:

Like Rihanna, Katy Perry's and Madonna's Digi-Pak my main image on the front cover of my album is of my artist and promoting the emotion of the CD, like all of the Digi-paks I have a title and the artists name on the front cover for everyone to know what and who the album is and who it belongs to. Similarly I have a track list and effective images on the inside and outside of the album. I also have a copyright message on the back of the album and bar code and label information and symbols. However differently I have song lyrics on the inner panel on the left of an image of my artist to give a feel of what the album is like. Furthermore unlike these albums my album have a solid white background which could be seen as quite plain compared to some of these digi-paks especially Madonna's album, however i do think however effective her album is the detail on the outer panel could be distracting from who the artist really is. which is something i strongly didn't want to do for my album. It can be seen that my album is most similar to Rihanna's whose album cover is quite simple with a strong effective image of the artist looking down like my main image on my Digi-pak and a title and artist name in text that stands out.

Do you think your target audience would be attracted to them? why yes?

Target Audience Extra

Our Target Audience

This image shows an example of the target audience my group and I chose to pick. Our audience is all young people but mainly females. This is because we thought that females are more likely to be attracted to this genre of music videos. This may sounds slightly sexist since we said it should be mainly for girls because they sometimes seem more in touch with their sensitive side more than men; but it is just something that is true so this is how we came to make this decision.

Evaluation :Question Four

Moving on from AS i have realised the difference in terms of feedback i get from the audience about my work. One major thing which i noticed is that after the outcome of my production last year i wasn't recieving as much positive feedback from my audience. On the other hand, this year i have receive a lot of feedback from the audience and the majority of them have happened to be positive. In a sense this clearly triggers the fact that i have developed nessasarry skills to produce my media product. Not only that but i have also acheive the goal of meeting a wider audience who are social and find interest in my music video. Our Target audience are girls who are young adults/ teenagers from ages 16 to 18. I beleive we have acheive our main goal of targeting them as our artist is also a young teen, going through emotional conflict which is quite common with young teenage girls in today society.

I managed to gather some feed back from these students after the screening!

As our music video appeared on the screen during the screening of all videos i was often looking around to see people's expressions and their reactions to certain parts of the music video. What i noticed was a lot of people cheering at the types of effects and transitions we used esspecially towards the ending whereas some people were engaged and focused with the music video since it such a moving and emotionally depressing song . From this alone, i felt releaved at the efforts put in towards the construction of our music video by me and my group that were actually noticeable to the audience in terms of editing and our performer's credible performance.
CLASS ANALYSIS OF VIDEOS
This day we presented our rough cut to the class and was given feedback on the stage we were at. A couple of people mention a few things that we could imporve and few things that they liked about it.

 Two critisisms:
  • "The projection shots seemed quite unrealistic"
  • "The framing was our for quite a lot of the shots"
Two things that were good at the time:
  • "The basetracks were suitable and effective in relation to our choice of song"
  • "The cuts were effective and meaningful"
Feedback 1

Feedback 2

Unlike AS, in A2 i have come to realise that without feedback your product would be unsuccessful because the audience are what bring meaning to the product in order to make it known to sell and earn profits. So a thing i have learnt from the feedbacks is that as an artist trying to grow in the music industry it is important to take notes of the critisism in order to improve and meet up their expectations as our targets because how the product is judged goes down to their opinions so it is highly essential to LISTEN to them.

If i could go back, what i could improve is possiblly consider all the constructive critisism from the audience in order to improve my work and make it much better as a result of what they want and expect. Relecting back over on it all after the feedback it has made me look ar my products in a different light.

Evaluation : Question Three

Evaluation : Question Two

HOW EFFECTIVELY IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT (VIDEO) AND ANCILLARY TEXT (DIGIPAK) AND (ADVERTISEMENT)?
This screen shot illustrates the visual link between my music video and my ancillary. My promotional pack was made and constructed accordingly to match the aspects of my music video. This particular screenshot coveys the city lights in certain parts of my ancillary which corresponds to the city light im my music video from the night scenes. I puposely included this because from the feed back, the night scenes tended to be what our audiences remembered so they would be atracted to my media texts. So as our "strongest" scene i made it reflect in my album and advert. Also because it looks creative and blends in well with the colour scheme.
This particular screenshot illustrates the traditional repetition of hand gestures and poses which our artist makes quite often in the music video. This lead me on to think carefully for when we started the photoshoot and chosing images for my digipak by making sure they involved hand to show this visual link/connection between the video and my media texts.

These screen shots placed aside covey the repetition of blue which mirror in both the music video and my media texts this creates the sense that i am dragging a colour scheme as part of our artist image throughout her music video and into the media texts.

Evaluation question one:

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Forms and Conventions of music videos - which of the main ideas of Vernallis and Goodwin did i follow in my video?

video one: Talking about Carol Vernallis
video two: Talking about Andrew Goodwin

Vernalis

Goodwin

Actual example of music videos that follow Vernallis view on a music video include:

Florence and the Machine - Dog Days are over

The Saturdays - All Fired up

Whilst examples of Goodwin view of music video include:

Disjuncture:

Telephone - Lady Gaga ft Beyonce

Amplification:

Paradise - Cold play

Illustration:

Nikki Bronsky - I can hear the bells

Videos that we were influenced by:

We was particularly influenced by Christina Perri and her music video - A Thousand years

This video has great aspects of mise en scene that have heavily influenced our own music video, for example   the idea of a dark black background where there is a spotlight on her face and singing with a candle in hand. We have interpreted this into our own piece of work and have used this shot for intertexuality  The editing is also great in this video, there is lots of fading used to move one scene onto the next, in our music video we have done this, only we have done this by fading and dissolving multiple images together to make certain shots stand out and be more effective. We were also influenced by the close-ups and lighting of the video. These are presented so beautifully in this video which made us think they may suit our own music video. we wanted loads of base tracks of the artist just like in this video so the audience had a clear idea of who the artist was and what she was about.

This is a screenshot illustrating the fading and dissolving from one shot to another which I found appealing in the video and was influenced by in my video

This is a second example of one shot blending and dissolving and fading into another shot.

This an image of our main artist interpreting the shot from the video above where she is singing with the candle in her  hand preparing to blow it out.

This is what the shot originally looks like in the music video A Thousand years

This is an image of the idea we liked with the dark background but with bright lights which highlights the artist.

There is a variety of camera shots in this video that we found to be very appealing: For example close-ups  wide shots and long shots:

How conventional is my Digi-Pak and advertisement? - what conventions did i use and why?

My Digi-Pak uses a clear font and using appropriate sizes of images and font, with clear images that are appropriate to the shape of the page, I have kept up a house style that I feel is effective and have used it throughout making the Digi-Pak on the inner and outer panels. I have carefully placed the text on the panels so they are reason-able but are they do not block any of the images. I have also included a bar code and the right labels and symbols and logos needed, and did not forgot to include the title and artist name.

I followed the Do's and Don't s of a Digi-Pak

and below is the finishing piece of my Dig-Pak, they illustrate how I have or haven't followed the conventions in your eyes:

This is the outer panel of my Digi-Pak

Evaluation : Question One

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Planning Evaluations

Planning my evaluation was an important way of taking a suitable approach towards each of my questions.
The process i went through when planning:
  • i took notes on how each of them will be answered.
  • Things i could refer back to.
  • which forms of media technology i intend to use for each one.
  • Where to begin from ( in my situation i already received feedback from the day of the screening so i decided to start with Question 4 then 1,2 and 3)

Production Day 3 ( Final day of editing)

Now that my ancillary product is almost complete i still had to make a few adjustments to some parts of my digipak and advertisement to ensure that they each look of a proffesional and unique standard. I did this by going back over the do's and don't (conventions) which confirmed my ability to construct my Ancillary work relatively.

(Still pending......)

My completed products

I am really happy of the way my media products have turned out and i have also enjoyed using photoshop to make them. The i tried to posterize the inside panels but  it made the images look too over-edited so i switched it back to normal as i was told it from feeback from other students that it was fine the way it was. I have ended up also chosing my shade of blue the reason for is is because i have gone for the black and white theme which makes the intensive blue look too solid and bold for it so i chose a nice pale blue to fit into it.
This black and white theme i created was purposely for me to make my digipak look unique and different compared to the other member's in my group. Also because the song in the album are quite depressing and created the sense of "no color" or "brightness".
I added a city scape theme as a lot of it was seen in the music video where we did the night scenes in kingscross, so for visual link purposes.
At the end i added a promotional sticker to stimulate the my artist promotion and also to add to proffession.
