Research for music video

State of the music industry in 2012

The music industry has definitely changed since the 90's for example. A while back, people would buy CD's to listen to music, listen to the radio more often, use tapes to listen to music etc. But in our day, 2012, people hardly pay for CD's any more  we use YouTube to listen to music, we download songs illegally and we use MP3's, iPods etc to listen to music as well.
Illegal downloading has been a very big problem for music industries especially this year. There are 67 illegal download services in the UK alone and there were 1.2 billion illegal downloads in the UK in 2012.
Ownership in the music industry has also changed. In 1988 - 1998, there were 6 major labels in the industry which were... Warner Music Group, EMI, Sony Music, BMG Music, Universal Music Group and Polygram. Now, in 2012, there are only 3 (if approved) major labels which are Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.
